MISSION STATEMENT:
The Woodridge Community Pantry is an emergency food pantry serving the community by feeding the hungry and sharing resources to improve the quality of life.
It seeks to eradicate hunger within families and individuals in the Woodridge area and to serve other unmet human needs of the community.

Donations

Cabaret Fund Raiser

The Cabaret is an annual event with the primary focus on raising money to feed the hungry. However, it is also a fun and entertaining event that is more successful every year.

Cash

As members of America's Second Harvest through Northern Illinois Food Bank, the pantry can purchase many foods at $.18 per pound. This means, for instance, that a box of cereal which costs you $3.00 to $4.00 in the grocery store can be purchased by us for 14 to 18 cents.

For this reason, we encourage monetary donations.
Your check for $360 buys one ton of food!

Corporate Donors

Corporate donors are our partners in feeding the hungry. Among others, we are grateful to Jewel Food Store, Starbuck's, Whole Foods, Panera Bread, The Farm (produce), and Pepperidge Farm, who regularly donate food, and others who make sizeable semi-annual monetary contributions.

Food Drives Food Drives - Remember, $320 buys 1 TON of food!

Food drives are also a valuable source of our incoming food, especially the major drive sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers in May, and the village-wide collection in November, Harvest Sunday. Schools, churches, and the business community continually add needed supplies.

Your donation in fiscal year 2008 allowed us to:

  • Serve 19,638 persons, including 9,785 children and 1,244 senior citizens.  This is an increase over the same period in 2007 of 15% in over all numbers, and 90% in seniors.

  • Distribute almost 77,200 diapers

  • Give birthday kits to 297 children 10 and under

  • Helped 22 families apply for All Kids Insurance and 35 for Access DuPage

  • Began taking applications for Express Food Stamps enabling 40 families to get LINK cards.

  • Distribute 614,870 pounds of food

  • YOU gave us 24,373 volunteer hours.  According to Independent Sector research on the real value of volunteer time, those hours are worth $514,027 to the Pantry. Thank YOU!

Special Holiday Outreach

Special collections are sought for special days throughout the year:

Thanksgiving - families and individuals are provided with a turkey and all the “fixings” for a holiday meal plus!

Christmas - Each family or senior citizen is "adopted" and given everything needed for dinner as well as gifts for each child or senior in the household.

Easter - Each client receives a ham as well as an Easter basket for each child under the age of 12.
