Whom Do We Serve? The Woodridge Community
Pantry is an emergency food pantry serving the community by feeding the
hungry and sharing resources to improve the quality of life.
In
addition to non-perishable food items, all our clients receive eggs, milk,
cheese, margarine, produce, and frozen meat. We seek to provide all that is
needed for a well-balanced diet, although we recognize that our food is only
meant to supplement, not provide all the household's needs for the month. In
addition to those basic needs, we also supply personal care items, baby
supplies, and school
supplies. We also try to make holidays a little more special with gift
baskets at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter (see our Calendar page for more
information).
The Pantry serves residents of the Woodridge area who are in need, and who meet
the Federal Income Guidelines posted in the pantry. These guidelines are
issued annually, and vary depending on the number of people in the
household.
If you are not sure whether you qualify, please stop at the pantry, and
we will be able to assist you. All clients are treated with respect and
utmost confidentiality.
The pantry continues to experience a growth in the number of clients
served. During fiscal* year 2008, there was an increase of 15% over
2007. Over the past five years, the number of clients served
by the pantry has tripled. We also serve an increasing number of senior
citizens, from 654 in 2007 to 1,244 in 2008. On average, clients visit the
pantry 4.3 times before moving back to self-sufficiency.

*The Pantry's fiscal year ends June 30. |
