MISSION STATEMENT:
The Woodridge Community Pantry is an emergency food pantry serving the community by feeding the hungry and sharing resources to improve the quality of life.
It seeks to eradicate hunger within families and individuals in the Woodridge area and to serve other unmet human needs of the community. 

Volunteers

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Over 100 individuals volunteer on a regular basis. Some of our needs are (PLEASE NOTE: We request at-the-Pantry volunteering to be done beginning 1/2 hour prior to the pantry opening and ending 1/2 hour after the pantry closes, as indicated below.):A World of Volunteer Opportunities

  • Willing drivers to pick up donations at local area merchants, weekday mornings (vehicle provided)

  • Dedicated staff to sort and shelve food, fill orders, and assist clients Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday mornings, 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM; and Thursday evenings from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

  • Organized individuals to re-stock shelves Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday afternoons, between 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM.

  • Creative individuals to deal with correspondence, write grant applications, press releases, and find new ways to publicize pantry needs and events.

  • Caring persons to work with our new senior citizen ministry.

  • Loving individuals to staff our infant program, and supply diapers, formula, and other baby needs.

  • Energetic people to identify and work with volunteers.

  • Bilingual persons to translate for our Spanish clients.

  • Celebrating individuals to prepare birthday party boxes for children (supplies provided).

  • Helpful individuals to assist clients in applying for food stamps.

  • Efficient people to do clerical work (should have experience with Microsoft Word, Access and Excel).

The Woodridge Community Pantry serves almost 2,000 local residents per month who meet Federal Income Guidelines. The pantry also provides outreach programs such as parenting classes, budgeting guidance, and job search assistance.

Volunteers donated 24,373 hours in fiscal year 2007. According to Independent Sector research on the real value of volunteer time, those hours are worth $514,027 to the Pantry.
