Supportive Programming

The following programs are designed to improve the quality of life of the people served by the West Suburban Community Pantry. For more information about any of these programs, please contact Anne Banks, at the Pantry: 630.512.9921.

  • ESL (English as a Second Language)
FREE ESL classes are currently held Monday and Wednesday mornings, 8:30 am – 11:30 am at the Woodridge Park District Community Center, 2600 Center Drive, Woodridge, IL. Summer classes are held at various locations in the community. Complimentary breakfast, free textbooks, and childcare (age limit 10 & under) are provided by the Pantry. Advance registration is required. Classes are held three semesters annually in partnership with the College of DuPage.
  • Nutrition
The Nutrition class offers our clients the opportunity to learn the value of preparing nutritious and economical meals for their family. Appropriately named “Taste of the Pantry”, staff from the University of Illinois Extension Service Nutrition Department prepare a dish using product from the Pantry, in addition to sharing a variety of recipes. Clients are invited to “taste” the delicious results. The program is offered six times during the year at the Pantry and held on Tuesday or Thursday mornings, 9:00 am-12:00 noon.
  • Child Safety and Car Seat Distribution
The Child Safety and Car Seat Distribution classes are conducted four times during the year. The one-hour classes are presented in English and Spanish and are open to residents of DuPage County. Residents must have All Kids Healthcare, Family Care, Access DuPage, or show a specific need. The instructor demonstrates proper installation of the seats, ensuring they are appropriate for age and weight of the child, and emphasizing the importance of obeying the State law. Free car seats are distributed after the presentation. Advance registration is required for this program.

All Programs are offered free of charge to any interested individual, but require advance registration. Check our calendar page for information.  Meals are provided, where indicated, free of charge for those attending classes and their children. Childcare is also provided, where indicated, free of charge, but reservations are needed.
